Meet Double Up Champion: Representative Ken Borton

At Double Up Food Bucks, we’re on a mission to make fruits and veggies an accessible, affordable option for Michigan shoppers who use SNAP while also supporting our local farmers and communities. But this work simply wouldn’t be possible without the farmers markets and neighborhood grocery stores, community partners and shoppers, at the very heart of our program: Our Double Up Champions.

Representative Ken Borton: Strengthening Rural Communities and Expanding Access to Healthy Food

Representative Ken Borton serves Michigan’s 105th House District, representing communities across Northern Michigan. A lifelong outdoorsman and advocate for rural communities, Borton brings a practical, solutions-focused approach to his work in Lansing. He chairs the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture and Rural Development and Natural Resources, where he champions policies that support Michigan’s farmers, preserve natural resources, and promote economic opportunity in rural regions.

Borton’s support for initiatives like Double Up Food Bucks reflects his commitment to programs that help both Northern Michigan families and farmers thrive. By matching SNAP dollars spent on fresh fruits and vegetables, Double Up strengthens local agriculture, expands markets for farmers, and helps ensure all families can access nutritious food, working in tandem with Borton’s vision of a resilient, self-sustaining rural Michigan.
